Dr. Laura Stoy

Hi! My name is Laura Stoy, and I am an entrepreneur, patent-pending inventor, and a scientist. I defended my PhD in environmental engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2021, where I studied resource recovery, turning trash into treasure. Specifically, I developed a method to sustainably recover valuable rare earth elements (REEs) from wastes like coal fly ash, a byproduct of burning coal for electricity. My advisor and I filed a patent on this work in 2019, and I founded Rivalia Chemical Co. to commercialize it in July 2022.
